Drainage and removal of rainwater etc should be incorporated into the design when landscaping a relatively large area. 

Drainage work isn’t typically thought of as part of a beautiful landscape design, but drainage and the removal of rainwater and over land runoff is an essential part of a well-developed landscape concept. But there’s no reason that it can’t be made both practical and attractive.
